Lester E. Florant Endowed Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1993, the Lester E. Florant Endowed Memorial Scholarship is designated for undergraduate physics majors.
The award qualifications for undergraduate students are as follows:
- Applicants must be a descendent or native of Anguilla, Antigua, Dominica, Barbados, Bahamas, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Montserrat, or British Virgin Islands. Preference is to be given to a first generation college student (one or neither of whose parents shall have graduated from college). If no student from the above described Caribbean islands applies or qualifies, then consideration will be given to other qualified students descended from or native to any other Caribbean island.
- The applicant must supply two letters of recommendation, one of the letters must be provided by a professor in the sciences and the other letter from another professor or community leader. The letters must include information regarding the applicant’s integrity, dependability, honesty, consideration of others, cooperation with teachers and fellow students, and commitment to the minority community.
- The applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.00 in the applicant’s physics major, along with an overall minimum GPA of 2.00 or acceptance as full-time physics major for freshmen students.
- The applicant must establish financial need according to the Free Application Federal Student Assistant form (FASFA) or have an outstanding balance to the University for international students.
